Recollection
An evening retreat to pause, pray, and encounter God in daily life.
A recollection is a brief evening retreat that offers space to step away from the noise, pace, and pressures of daily life in order to encounter God more intentionally. In the middle of a busy professional and social world, recollection creates room for silence, prayer, and reflection so that faith can take deeper root in everyday life.
Rooted in the spirituality of St. Josemaría Escrivá, recollection helps us learn how to find God not by leaving the world behind, but by sanctifying ordinary life, work, and relationships. It is a time to slow down, listen, and renew our friendship with God.
Each recollection follows a simple and thoughtful rhythm designed to nourish both the interior life and practical living.
At the heart of recollection are meditations led by a priest of Opus Dei. A meditation is a guided prayer that helps you reflect on Scripture, themes of Christian life, and your personal relationship with God. Rather than a lecture, meditation invites quiet listening, personal reflection, and conversation with God in your own heart.
During the recollection, there is also time for spiritual direction, where you may speak one on one with a priest about your prayer life, spiritual questions, or areas of growth. Confession is available as well, offering an opportunity for reconciliation, healing, and grace.
The evening concludes with a formation talk, usually about thirty minutes, centered on the theme of the recollection. This talk offers concrete insights and practical guidance to help translate prayer into daily life. The goal is to leave not only inspired, but equipped with ways to live faith and virtue more intentionally in the real world.
Recollection includes time of Eucharistic Adoration and Benediction, allowing you to pray quietly in the real presence of Christ. This is a moment to rest in silence, bring your intentions before Him, and simply be with God.
Recollections are held in our beautiful oratory, a sacred space that invites reverence, stillness, and prayer. Sitting in the presence of Christ, many experience a renewed sense of peace, clarity, and closeness to God.
Recollection offers a unique opportunity to pause and reorient your life toward what matters most.
Some of the fruits of recollection include:
• Deepening your friendship with God
• Growing in faith and virtue in everyday life
• Gaining clarity and peace through silence and prayer
• Learning how to sanctify work and ordinary responsibilities
• Receiving practical guidance for Christian living
• Finding rest and renewal in the presence of Christ
Recollection is open to women at all stages of spiritual life. No prior experience is needed.
To prepare, you may want to bring:
• A notebook or journal to jot down thoughts during meditation
• Any questions you may wish to discuss during spiritual direction
• A rosary, if you would like to pray during personal prayer time
Recollection includes moments of silence, which can feel unfamiliar at first. Silence is not meant to be intimidating, but freeing. It creates space to listen, reflect, and allow God to speak. You are welcome to take notes, pray quietly, or simply sit with the Lord during this time.
Come as you are. There is no pressure to perform or have everything figured out. Recollection is an invitation to meet God where you are and allow Him to work gently in your heart.
Recollection is a gift of time set aside for God in the middle of ordinary life. It is a chance to step back, breathe, and rediscover the joy of prayer, faith, and friendship with Christ.
We invite you to join us for our next recollection and experience how even a brief pause for God can transform the way you live, work, and love.
